Minneapolis mayor proclaims August 7 "Healthy Hemp Bread Day" honoring the French Meadow Bakery & Cafe
Minneapolis--When popular Minneapolis Mayor, R.T. Rybak declared August 7, 2003 "Healthy Hemp Bread Day" and held a press conference at the French Meadow Bakery & Cafe, home of America's only certified organic hemp bread sold nationally, The French Meadow looked like a movie set! Dozens of loyal customers gathered along with the local and national media&emdash;-all three network affiliates and Fox News had reporters buzzing. The Mayor held a press conference, honoring French Meadow Bakery's owners Lynn Gordon and Steve Shapiro. Even National Public Radio and the Associated Press showed up!
"I love the French Meadow's Healthy Hemp Bread and eat two slices every day," announced the mayor over the speakers. The Mayor added the bread is so healthy "I train on Healthy Hemp Bread for the triathlon and Marathons." Later, his wife Megan confided to a French Meadow staff person that the Mayor relishes the Healthy Hemp Bread so much he eats two slices dry, no organic butter or jam!
"It's true, Mayor Rybak and his family are regular customers of the French Meadow Bakery & Cafe (for meals) and they buy a lot of Healthy Hemp Bread here," says Steve Shapiro, French Meadow's Vice President. Shapiro goes on, "Moreover, the Mayor's highly publicized visit to our establishment in an effort to boost a thriving local business generated a tremendous amount of positive feedback."
The Mayor of Minneapolis took pride in the fact that French Meadow is America's oldest continuously certified organic bakery. "The French Meadow Bakery employs nearly l00 people. It was just voted best neighborhood café. We salute both Lynn (Gordon) and Steve (Shapiro) for producing the healthiest breads in the country!"
The Mayor also went to bat for all small businesses that that produce food and cosmetics with hempseed and hemp oil.
Lynn Gordon, founder and president of the French Meadow Bakery stated at the Mayor's press conference "The DEA was foolish to ban hemp seed because it is a rich source of protein, dietary fiber, minerals, iron, Vitamin E and a near perfect composition of fatty acids&emdash;Omega 3 and 6. We expect sales to increase as a result of the court ruling."
The good news for the hemp industry in America is that since Mayor Rybak's press conference that made national news in August, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has honored the "stay". Hemp foods stay legal in the U.S., for now.
